April 18th –  20th  2014

General Preamble

This is the second Sixes to be sponsored by XCLUSIVE PROPERTY, Bali’s premier property agency. We are very grateful for their generosity and their support to this vital Indonesian sports Tournament with its main aim to promote cricket amongst Indonesians. Special thanks to Neil Power the owner of XP who also played in the Tournament.

Great thanks and appreciation is due to the men and women behind the scenes especially Gede Ori (Chairman of the Udayana CC), Soni Hawoe (Manager of the Sixes), Sariyani (Chief Scorer), Agung Artha (Chief Barman), Brent Palfreyman (Umpire) Imanuel Wadu (Groundsman) all the Captains and their teams and many others too many to name.

Sixteen teams participated in the 18th Sixes from India (Rajus Cricket Academy), Malaysia (Penang CC), Australia (Uni Bulls, Last Man Stands and Mabuk Kenalpots) and Indonesia. The teams from Indonesia included Indorama, Senayan Tigers, University of Indonesia and Banten from West Java and Lovina, Buleleng, Hatten Tigers, Udayana CC and Udayana Kingfisher Veterans from Bali.

Secondary Sponsors who sponsored Indonesia local teams were Government of Buleleng, University of Udayana, Solar Power Indonesia, Legacy, Ecolodges Indonesia and personal sponsor Ian Jasper (Melbourne). The generosity of these persons and companies is acknowledged and greatly appreciated. All sponsored funds were used to promote Indonesian teams who could not afford the entrance fee.

There were other unique characteristics of this Tournament, notably the introduction of an internet league (Last Man Stands and a visit of a team from the Singapore arm of IMG Worldwide, a global sports and media business headquartered in New York city. IMG is the broadcast partner of the International Cricket Council and produce a weekly television programme, “ICC Cricket 360”.  The show is aired globally and has an audience of about 95 million people.  Both these visits impacted very beneficially on the Tournament.

“Last Man Stands” introduced us to a system which will rapidly compare our players to hundreds of other players all over the globe. The 18th Sixes results were on the internet on the same day. The team from IMG will hopefully publicize  our Sixes as a unique tournament.

The Christie and Lean families used the Sixes for a family reunion fielding a team with two fathers and their four sons. Members of this team have supported the Sixes since their inception and have played a unique part in cricket development in Indonesia.

Many old friends returned including Melven, Yeri and Nando (old members of the Udayana CC) leading Jakarta based teams,  Donger and Cranky from the Top Enders, Dy Sidhu, Hamid and Avtar from Penang, Mr Raju from Hyderabad, all the Indorama side and so many others. We greatly thank you all for your loyalty.

The general atmosphere at these Sixes was exceptional as the games were played in great spirit. The wonderful effect of the carefree attitude of the Bulls (especially

Skip) emanated over the ground.  In particular the player tunnels, the Mexican wave and sheer joy of playing cricket were very evident. New friendships were made which will benefit many people in their development.

A new format for the tournament learnt from the Jakarta Sixes, was attempted with great success, namely two games going at the same time, bowling only from one end with a restricted run. This enabled us to handle 16 teams with ease as the weather was very kind to us.

Teams were divided into four groups: Group A Udayana, City Bulls, Rajus U19 and Buleleng.  Group B teams were Senayan Tigers,  Raju Senior, Country Bulls, Lovina. Group C Hatten Tigers, Indorama, University of Indonesia, Last Man Stands. Group D Banten, Kingfisher Veterans, Penang CC and Mabuk Kenalpots. After the first phase, all teams were divided into the Cup and the Plate according to ranking.

The Cup Semi Finalists were Indorama, Penang, Mabuk Kenalpots and Udayana. The Plate semi finalists were Last Man Stands, Raju Senior, Buleleng and Lovina. All these games (except the Final of the Cup) came down to the last ball and were very exciting in particular the game between Penang and Indorama. For detailed results look at the results in
